FIRST VOICES INDIGENOUS RADIO
MANUEL ROZENTHAL- Association of Indigenous Councils of Northern Cauca, ACIN. www.mamaradio.blogspot.com/ MINAGA POPULAR arrive at BOGOTA, COLUMBIA today and will have a mass march and rally that began Oct. 10th. The organizers hope to meet/debate once again with President Uribe, but more important is the amount of solidarity they received in their long trek from Cali to Bogota along the way: the start of a national movement seems likely; There is concern about new developments in the US like the naming of Eric Holder to be attorney general - this guy defended Chiquita Brands Int'l in its case involving their payments to the paramilitary AUC in Colombia. The peoples of Columbia are anti-Free Trade Agreement and have written a letter to President Elect Barack Obama including the following statement "Before we disappear with our collective Mother, we have decided to speak and to walk our words. In the name of life, of change, let us listen to one another and make the effort to find a way to create harmony between our peoples and life. Let us create the conditions for new History. One where the sacred ends of promotion and protection of Life and Beauty can never again be transformed into means for private accumulation of power at the service of greed." . LUZ SCHREIBER, community organizer and TANIA ROMERO raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador is a founding member of OLLIN IMAGINATION! www.ollinimagination.blogspot.com discuss the New Constitution of Ecuador, and it's inclusion of Mother Earth - prohibits discrimination, respects private property, will increase spending on health care and the poor, and enshrines more rights for Indigenous groups. In a country rich with ecological treasures, including the Galapagos Islands and part of the Amazon rain forest, the constitution also calls on government to avoid measures that would destroy ecosystems or drive species to extinction -- the first such measure of its kind. The new constitution includes five revolutionary articles granting legal rights to nature (described in the document as "Pachamama," the mother Earth goddess of the indigenous Andean people). One of the most biodiverse nations on the planet, it is now the first to give such far-reaching legal protection to the natural world.

Revolt of the Gang of 3/Gays Protest Mormon Antimarriage Bias Chris Thomas examines the politics behind the threatened revolt of the “Gang of 3” Democrats in the New York State Senate. These three Democratic state senators have threatened defection from the choice of Malcolm Smith as the Senate majority leader. One of the key issues that angers these three appears to be Smith’s support of gay marriage. This might put the Republicans in a powerful position to veto redistricting and other measures they have long blocked. Also: LGBT Protest against Mormon Financing of Ballot Measure Out-FM Producer John Riley covers the surging LGBT movement spawned by the defeat of same-sex marriage in California, including protests against the Mormon Church’s funding of California’s anti–same-sex marriage constitutional amendment. An estimated 5 to 15 thousand protestors attended the rally and march outside of the NYC Mormon temple.

Telling It Like It Is
Telling It Like Is with Stephen The Road Warrior will pay homage to the late great South African Singer and Freedom Activist, Miriam Makeba, who passed away on Sunday, November 9, in Italy. Ms. Makeba became a symbol of the fight against Apartheid (Aparthate - keeping the people apart through hate) and is well known in the Americas for songs such as the Click Song, Pata Pata and Malika. Also, testimony from recent Capitol Hill hearings as Iraqi Veterans testified about their experiences during their tours of duty. And, from the Palestinian perspective, an update on what's going on in the Israeli occupied territories. And more...

Equal Time for Freethought
After Atheism: Humanism? In 'After Atheism,' Mark Vernon confronts the lust for certainty found in the dogmatism of conservative religion and militant science. He believes that a committed even passionate agnosticism is vital for the future of our planet and our souls. But how can you be an agnostic and why does it matters? The key to wisdom, Socrates said, is understanding one's own ignorance. A similar thought lies at the heart of all good theology, since God is nothing if not unknown.
'Teach Yourself Humanism' is a comprehensive guide to an important and diverse philosophy. Generally seeking to define itself not as a negative response to religion but as a practical and ethical way of life focusing on common human needs and seeking rational ways of solving human problems, this book delves into the history and development of humanist thought and address the many questions that surround humanism today. Why is humanism important? Is it possible to 'believe' in humanism after Auschwitz? What implications does humanist thought have on our society as a whole and the way in which it is structured? How does humanism deal with birth, marriage and death?
